Pinellas County collects
2.2 million tons of garbage per year. That's a lot
of land fill.
Over 73% of that material is recyclable.
My Eagle project is
going to be a recycling center to reduce landfill
and save natural resources.
It is going to be
located at East Lake Community Library. The East
Lake area has over 30,000 people.
The proposed
recycling center will hold 3 large bins for
recycling plastic, aluminum, cardboard and news
paper. 2 bins will be used at one time.
I will be building a
concrete slab 30ft by 35 ft and 6in thick which the
bins will sit on with 6 bumpers 2 behind each of the
bins. The slab will be re-enforced with 4 inch
highway mesh.
There will be a
15 foot by 30 ft asphalt parking area in front of
the cement slab so that cars can park and people can
easily access the facility. For the surrounding
fence I will be using recycled telephone poles
donated by Progress Energy (cut down to about 8ft
high) (4’in the ground 4’out of the ground) and
connected with chain donated by the US Coast Guard.
I will plant drought
resistant and cold hardy plants around the outside
of the site such as Crepe Myrtle, Mexican Petunia,
Plumbago and Fountain Grass.
Recycled county mulch
will be used as ground cover around the recycling
center to prevent weed growth and moiture loss.
I will hang 3 signs
per Pinellas Count Utility’s requirement.
