Steven
Shapiro, Trigger Trainers Chief Instructor
As a young
adult, Steven became involved in
shooting sports, rifle hunting
and karate. While in college he
earned his Black Belt in
Moo-Du-Kwan Tang-Soo-Do, a
Korean Martial Art and won
several competitive karate
competition awards.
After college, Steven worked at
the Kennedy Space Center and via
his on-base contacts began
training in Oo-Du-Kwan Tang-Soo-Do,
a combat form of the Tang-Soo-Do
Martial Art as well as handgun
and rifle training and practice
with friends in base security.
A successful career in Software
Consulting, and raising a family
distracted him from his training
in the Martial Arts and Shooting
Sports for many years, but he
resumed his training in the mid
1990's when his son was old
enough to get involved in these
activities.
Steven then earned his second
Black Belt, this time in
Shotokan Karate from an
instructor with a 3rd Generation
direct lineage to Gichin
Funakoshi, credited as the
founder of Shotokan Karate and
the person who coined the term
Kara-Te (Open Hand). Steven then
earned his Instructor's
Certification as a Shotokan
Karate Instructor.
During this time Steven became
involved in the Boy Scouts of
America with his son. He has been
a Boy Scouting Volunteer
(Scouter) and has held positions
of Cub Scout Den Leader, Webelos
Den Leader, Boy Scout Assistant
Scoutmaster and then Boy Scout
Scoutmaster, ultimately earning
his BSA District's First Annual
Scoutmaster of the Year Award.
He is also a member of the
Calusa District Training
Committee and currently trains
youth and adults in the various
Scouting skills necessary for
Boy Scouts and Boy Scout
Leaders.
During his years in Boy
Scouting, Steven became involved
in the various BSA Shooting
Sports Programs including
Archery, Pistol, Rifle, Shotgun
(including muzzle loading
pistol, rifle and shotgun) and
became a council certified Range
Master with credentials to teach
Boy Scout Merit Badges in each
of these disciplines to youth
and train adults in the teaching
of these disciplines.
Recently the BSA changed their
qualification requirements for
firearms instruction and
required that all Merit Badge
Instructors be NRA Certified
Instructors. To comply, Steven
became an NRA Certified
Instructor in the following:
Pistol Instructor (FIRST Steps
and Basic for Modern and Muzzle
Loading)
Rifle
Instructor (FIRST Steps and
Basic for Modern and Muzzle
Loading)
Shotgun
Instructor (FIRST Steps and
Basic for Modern and Muzzle
Loading)

NRA Range
Safety Officer (RSO)
Upon receiving his NRA
Certifications, Steven
discovered a strong demand from
his friends and family to learn
more about firearms - specifically, defensive firearms
for use in personal protection
inside and outside the home. He
also discovered a strong desire
from many of these people to
obtain their Florida Carry
Concealed Weapons License,
especially the owners of small
retail businesses who wanted to
be prepared to defend and
protect themselves during
business hours as well as after
hours when making bank deposits.
To meet this demand, he started
Trigger Trainers and offers NRA
Firearms courses, Florida
Concealed Carry courses and
private / personal instruction
to individuals and groups.
Steven
currently works days as the
Software Product Manager for a
company in Tampa, Florida, and spends his
evenings and weekends as a
Trigger Trainers firearms instructor.
